How to Wear a Maxi Skirt In Fall and Winter

Fall and Winter can make it easy to feel trapped in a style rut. Cold weather can turn you off from dresses, but wearing pants all the time is boring. What’s the solution?… A Maxi skirt!

Though you may think of maxi skirts as summer clothing that you wear with tank tops and sandals,  they can look pretty great once temperatures drop, so long as you know how to style them.

Black, Navy, and other neutral-colored maxi skirts are exceptionally versatile this time of year. Check out these chic style recipes for how to wear a maxi skirt in Fall and Winter.

1. How to Wear a Black Maxi Skirt

With a Striped Sweater

Who doesn’t love black? It pairs well with everything in your closet, is very slimming, and can look quite sophisticated even when paired with a casual outfit.

This Fall and Winter, instead of your favorite black pants, try wearing a black maxi skirt. There are many things you can pair with one, but a sweater makes for a cute and cozy look.. Try wearing a black maxi with a striped, fitted turtleneck for a modern, polished look. Tuck the shirt in, or wear it with a casual look.

A striped sweater + a solid black maxi skirt is a very classic look. A striped sweater and a black print maxi skirt (such as a black floral skirt) is a more funky look.

With a Jacket

A maxi skirt always looks cool when you pair it with a leather or suede moto jacket. This taupe suede jacket is an ideal match for this sleek black maxi.

Don’t forget to add a pair of ankle booties with a bit of a heel to keep the skirt from dragging on the floor, and also make your skirt look flowier and more glamorous. Combat boots, cowboy, or moto boots are fashionable if you want a maxi look with attitude.

2  How to Wear a Navy Maxi Skirt

Navy is similar to black in that it can be worn with almost any Fall or winter color, but it is a more lively choice. When black seems too serious or no longer suits you, a navy maxi skirt is a beautiful alternative. The Navy also happens to be everywhere at the moment.

A navy maxi skirt like this looks particularly lovely in the evening for dressy events. For example, here I’ve paired this luxurious, navy maxi with a sparkly silver sleeveless turtleneck. It’s a very sporty-chic look. You could wear a glittery, sequined tank or an alluring, glamorous evening look.

If you prefer, you can find beautiful, long-sleeved silk blouses with some pretty embellishments. Just make sure it isn’t too baggy. Dangly tassel earrings and a chic clutch give the outfit above an after-five feel.
