Best Duster Jackets for Spring & Why they’re Handy

Duster jackets, also known as duster coats or kimonos, are perfect for this time of year. These long, light and loose layering pieces are the Swiss army knives of fashion, because you can throw them on top of pretty much anything.

Here are five reasons to wear a duster coat over 40, along with some stylish ways to pair them.

1. Duster Coats Cover Up the Wobbly Bits

Do you prefer to keep your arms covered? Wear a duster. Want to deflect attention away from heavy hips and highs? Wear a duster. Duster coats are a light and easy way to camouflage without feeling all covered up and hot.

2. They Add a Shot of Color

Many gals love neutrals because they are chic and classy. However, I’m also a big fan of face-flattering colors, and a simple way to achieve this is by adding a colorful duster jacket to neutrals. Wear one over white jeans and a white tank top to look fresh and vibrant.

3. A Duster is a great ‘Third Piece’

Adding a third piece to a basic pant and top outfit is a styling trick that helps pull an outfit together and make it look more cohesive. That third piece can be a scarf, a sweater, a jacket, or… a duster. This outfit is okay with just the jeans and a cute top, but see how it comes alive with this pretty floral dress.

If you like an edgy aesthetic but worry it might be too harsh once you hit 40, a duster is a great way to soften things up. Since they are light and flowy, they add a relaxed element to your outfit. What do you think? Are duster coats fab or frumpy?
