Fall Fashion for Women Over 50: Nordstrom Try-Ons ( Part 1)

Fall Fashion may still be weeks away, but if you are like me, you’re already eyeing what’s coming. One of the first big clues? Nordstrom’s early Fall arrivals. Recently, I headed over to Nordstrom to do some trying on, mixing and matching, and narrowing down of the best picks for women over 40, 50+ who want to look casually chic and modern. Here’s a peek at what I found, what I loved, and what’s worth grabbing while it’s still in stock.

Green sweater, black pants

Wide Leg Pants and Sweater

One of the best wardrobe staples for fall is a pair of wide legs black pants. I like these Wit & Wisdom ones that have a super high waist and power mesh panels to mold and hold – Lol!

One trend I noticed a lot was short sleeve sweaters. I love them because they’re cozy, but refined, and a nice change from chunky oversized sweaters. The green is so fresh with black, and the scallop neckline and sleeves make it!

Red faux leather coat

Faux Leather Coat

Long coats are trending, but this is the first one I’ve seen in faux leather. It’s a wrap coat, so no buttons, just a tie-waist which looks very chic. And, that burnt red color – so gorgeous!  This faux leather trench coat feels very soft and buttery on, and it’s a great price at just over $100. It’s a fun, classy statement piece!

Blue sweater cropped pants

Roll Neck Sweater & Cropped Jeans

I was surprised there weren’t many bright colors for early Fall,  so when I saw this stunning “blue dazzle” sweater, I snapped it up. The crewneck style is also super cute with the relaxed roll collar and cuffs.

I like this sweater with black pants, but for a more casual look, I thought these cropped jeans were also cute. They look great with flats, especially slingbacks!

Tweed Sheath

You should have heard the salesperson’s reaction when I walked out in this dress! They all loved it, and so did I. It’s a cute tweed sheath dress from Eliza J, and if you look closely, you‘ll see that the beauty of it is the colorful metallic threads running through it. A super cute dress for cocktails or a special event!

Tunic Sweater

Oh, how I loved this chic turtleneck tunic sweater with the cool oversized sleeves. I thought it looked great with these new cropped flare leg pants from Nic & Zoe or these cropped leg kickflares, which seem to be a big Fall trend.

This soft blue color is stunning, and it feels very comfy. The only thing is it’s made of a wool and cashmere blend, and with that turtleneck, I’ll be sweltering! I had to pass on this one.

Two Piece Knit Set

I’m a big fan of Nic and Zoe!  After trying on a ton of black and navy dresses (Nordstrom was full of these colors), I came across this sophisticated two-piece sweater dress in this rich burnt color that is kind of a cross between copper and burgundy. The skirt is a flowy, midi-length.

I love the mock neck sweater, which feels very modern, but it’s the texture that really attracted me. I also love that you can mix and match these pieces. It’s a great way to stretch your wardrobe!

Wrap Top

This soft, silky wrap top was a beauty on, but it is quite drapey in the front, meaning it tends to come open. A little fashion tape would help. I do like it, though. It’s such a soft, fluid piece.

There are those cropped flare leg pants from Nic & Zoe or these cropped leg kickflares again. I think they go a long way towards making this classic top look modern.

Mixed Media Dress

Mixed media is very trendy this fall, and I like it! This Steve Madden dress has a knit top and a cute poplin skirt. This mixing of opposite fabrics adds rich texture and creates a modern vibe. Love the belt too – super cute and a fresh new take on the little black dress!

Tweed Lady Jacket

A great lady jacket is another Fall staple that’s perfect to dress up an outfit or to wear casually with jeans. This one from CeCe is cute, classic, and looks expensive. If you are in between sizes, I’d go up one, as I found this a touch tight across the bust.

Stretch Satin Dress

I thought this silky Ikat print dress pretty much summed up the Fall color palette.  There’s a lot of dark navy, purple, brown, and some brighter rust.

Satin is going strong this fall, but it’s not so delicate that you feel uncomfortable wearing it. This dress is stretch satin, so it’s light, comfy, and easy to wear anywhere, anytime.

I did part 2 to this try on since there were so many things to show you. Click here to see part 2!
