The Best Travel Dresses for Florida (Especially for Women Over 50)
Planning a trip to Florida? Let’s talk dresses.
Whether you’re headed to Miami for a little glam, Orlando for theme park fun, or just soaking up the sun on the Gulf Coast, you’ll want to pack dresses that can handle the heat, the humidity, and the need to look pulled-together, but light and fun too. And if you’re in your 40s, 50s, or 60s, you know the style equation changes a bit—we want flattering silhouettes, breathable fabrics, and just the right amount of coverage.
Luckily, there are plenty of stylish travel dresses that tick all those boxes. These are the dresses I’d pack for any Florida vacation—cute, comfortable, and age-amazing.
What Makes a Great Travel Dress for Florida?
- Breathable fabrics like cotton, linen blends, rayon, or modal keep you cool.
- Lightweight silhouettes that don’t cling and allow airflow.
- Wrinkle-resistant or packable styles that look great straight from the suitcase.
- Versatile enough to wear for sightseeing, shopping, beach dinners, or a casual day trip.
- Prints or colors that work well in sun and heat—think tropical brights, classic navy, or soft florals.
The goal? Dresses that are easy to wear, flattering, and perfect for real-life travel over 50.

How to Style Your Florida Travel Dress
- Layer lightly: A denim jacket, linen button-down, or airy kimono works well for AC indoors.
- Shoes: Bring stylish walking sandals, white sneakers, or simple espadrilles.
- Accessories: A wide-brim hat, sunglasses, and a cute tote bag make any outfit feel complete.
- Undergarments: Choose breathable, seamless styles. I like a smoothing slip short or light shapewear that won’t overheat you.
What NOT to Pack for Florida (Dress Edition)
- Heavy or thick fabrics (save the ponte and sweater dresses for cooler climates)
- Tight, clingy synthetic materials (they don’t breathe well)
- Overly short hemlines (unless that’s your style, of course)
- Black Sundresses- really? It’s Florida. Wear Color!
Focus on comfort, confidence, and versatility instead.
FAQ: Florida Travel Dresses for Women Over 50
Can I wear long dresses in Florida’s heat?
Yes—just make sure they’re in breathable fabrics like cotton or rayon, and go for looser fits or side slits to help with airflow.
What are the best fabrics for Florida travel dresses?
Linen, cotton, rayon, and modal are ideal. They’re breathable, light, and help keep you cool.
How do I pack dresses without wrinkling them?
Roll them instead of folding, use packing cubes, or opt for wrinkle-resistant fabrics. A travel-size steamer doesn’t hurt either.
Are sleeveless dresses okay over 50?
Absolutely. Just make sure the cut feels flattering to you. Wide straps or a halter neckline can be more supportive and sophisticated.
What shoes go best with travel dresses in Florida?
Flat sandals, white leather sneakers, or comfortable espadrilles are all great. Look for arch support if you’ll be walking a lot.
Wrap-Up: Travel Light, Dress Right
You don’t have to sacrifice style for comfort—or overpack to feel prepared. A few great travel dresses can make your Florida getaway feel effortless and fashionable at the same time.
Have a favorite dress you always bring to Florida? Let me know in the comments—I love hearing what’s working for you!

Hi! The Medallion Shift Dress is adorable, and you look fantastic in it. However, the problem with the cute dress is that it is polyester, and I will be hot and sticky in it if I ever go on a real vacation to a warm beach. I’ll admit, it’s called a relaxed fit which will help enormously, but I’ll still be hot and sticky.
Any options for a cotton/spandex blend? I know it won’t travel as well; I’d instead steam the dress than burn me.
Love your tips!! Thanks!!
Hi Olga, a linen-cotton dress is cute, but you’d have to steam Tommy Bahama, a good brand for the beach. I hope that helps. Have fun at the beach!
The length of the Chico dress looks better in your blog than in the store ad. Did you shorten it an inch or two? Or maybe you are just tall!
Hi Elizabeth, No, I did not shorten it. I’m 5’7″. Someone else mentioned this to me, and I got thinking, I wonder if the model had short legs or something. I found it to be an average-length dress.
I think you look perfect! I love those colors too. I can’t wear polyester, though. It just makes me sweat too much, and I’m amazed at how expensive polyester clothing is. I have now turned into someone who checks the label before even considering the item of clothing.
I adore your blog posts! They’re so inspirational! I love what you do, and the things you post are precisely the things I’m interested in.
